Do your spices bring you Zen?
So here we are in our homes hanging out with ourselves and getting really cozy in our spaces.
What better time to relax and create your space of zen right?
How the heck do you do that with the continued mess around us?
What if for a moment we pause? Pause, get up and go open your spice drawer!
Why? Go, try it!
While opening the drawer listen to your inner dialogue. Feel how your body responds to the state of the cupboard/drawer. Not sure about you but I instantly went aarrwww, it's a mess, just like everything else in the house, lol.
If this was your response, keep reading. If not you can keep reading if you want :)
What if you take a few minutes and clean and organize the spice cupboard/drawer?
I had a moment of well that's the least important thing to tidy or clean. But I chose to do it any how.
I removed all the mystery spices and wiped up all the loose spices that somehow got everywhere and faced all the labels so I could read what I had. It was feeling much more organized. I closed the drawer and I went and got a drink and walked back over to the drawer and opened it again.
I sighed and felt so relaxed and realized that I had moved the spices all around. I had put them into the order that I use them while I'm cooking. This allowed for easy reaching and flow while cooking! It was such a satisfying accomplishment!
Completely different from my first response.
As I looked down I realized in that moment that I spend time during my consults helping my customers find flow in their spaces but I haven't taken the time to find mine. Just like the mechanics car right? The last to get worked on.
What better time then now to find the flow within my space!
My consultation questions started coming to mind and in that moment I gave myself a mini consult! The piles of sorting started to form quickly.
What do I love using in my kitchen? What are my must haves?
What do I use the most?
Are they within arms length/step away from your main prepping area?
Was the layout of the pots and pans, plates and glasses and cookie sheets in an easy and accessible location?
While removing all the extras out of my cupboards and drawers I divided the extra through the 2 piles if it didn't go into pile 1 or 2, I put them into their own pile ready for donation.
An hour and half past and I had put everything back into their new/same home that was best suited for its job.
I stood back and realized that my spice drawer had just brought me so much flow into my space! Who knew?
So take advantage of this time at home to continue to create the space and flow that brings a smile to your face. Remember sometimes it's the smallest step that gives us the momentum to move, change and allow our hearts and mind feel a small glimpse of zen during this crazy and weird time!
Next the pantry!
